I support free speech. I also support the free market. Why? They support one another and I think it allows ideas to enter our culture. That doesn’t mean I think that all speech contributes positive ideas to our culture and I don’t believe that the market produces only things that are good for us as citizen. I have learned to recognize that speech and the market offer an accurate portrayal of what people are thinking and what is in peoples hearts.

Larry Flynt and other pornographers have exploited free speech, free press and free market for years. They weren’t the first and they certainly won’t be the last. However, it is indisputable that there are people who share the same ideas and value the products that they have introduced into the free market. When consumers support ideas and products by purchasing them it is an accurate reflection of the values that exist within a culture.

ABC has clearly made a statement about their  stance upon Christianity. It is viewed as something to be mocked. The success of this program called GCB (Good Christian Bitches) will be worth weighing when considering how “America” views Christianity also.

Before you begin to dust off your soap box, I’d encourage you to consider which way you will be facing when you stand on it.

I’m not going to defend GCB. I have watched the pilot episode.

The show wouldn’t be humorous if there weren’t some truth in the humor that it portrays. The only way that there can be truth in the humor is because WE (Christians) have allowed the truth of the humor to occur. We have done so by denying THE TRUTH with our lives.

Perhaps before we begin to barrage a “secular” company that exercises free speech by marketing their parody of “church” in the free market WE should acknowledge that WE have allowed these pokes and prods to occur. Can WE repent and own the fact that the church has became the parody because WE fail to acknowledge Jesus as a REAL King in a REAL Kingdom that WE REALLY have been invited into?

Can WE repent and acknowledge that WE have excused REAL SIN by reducing OUR SINS to “mistakes” and “intentions” instead of walking in awe and fear of the God who set us free?

My point is, it would be far harder for any broadcasting company or book publisher to reap the profits of  their speech, marketing and programming such as GCB IF WE WERE WALKING UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF JESUS AND REGARDING HIM AS A REAL KING AND RECOGNIZE WE ARE CITIZENS OF A REAL KINGDOM AND WE ARE THE  REAL EMBODIMENT OF HIM IN OUR WORLD.

I grew up in the church. I’m a “PK” (preacher’s kid). I’ve met some of the best saints that have walked this earth and I have met some of the most hypocritical religious people that could care less about the gospel, Jesus/God, not to mention their “fellow man.” When you are raised in a preacher’s house you see the good, the bad and the ugly. You also see God transform the ugly into the good. Sometimes it’s  a beautiful circle.

With the power of grace allowing Jesus to live His resurrected life through US, WE will stamp out these mockeries and parodies from the mainstream. Not by our boycott’s but rather by our devotion to the LORD and SAVIOR that has set us free and joined us with God again.

Holiness isn’t a rhetorical banter, it’s a life of denying “me” so Christ can live through US. Left to myself, I’ll make a mockery of my King.  I don’t mind being mocked when it’s Christ in me that people are making a mockery of. I cringe at the thought of the body of Christ, the Church, being mocked because I haven’t taken my Lord seriously.
